Its all about the know why not how

When I look at the phrase “ Those who know how work for those who know why” I think of a type of dictatorship or a major business. The people that know how are the ones that are capable of actually of doing it. The people that know why are the ones that are able to make profit off the people who know how. This is how the world works. Almost every great company is built by people who rarely see the top of the ladder. Mostly because they are not capable of the know why. Everyone has there own strengths and weaknesses. It you make it to the top of the ladder, your strengths are right for the job. Not everyone strengths are the same that is why it take the people who know how as well as the people who know why.
I think that types of education play a huge role in whether or not you make it to the top of the ladder. Major companies want people that are highly educated. These are the people with the “know why”. It is true that more and more people are going to college now. In fact about in 2007 about 85% of high school student attend college. http://www.census.gov/compendia/statab/2010/tables/10s0228.pdf . Not every of that 80% will get there degree. And only about 29% get a least a bachelor degree. More and more business want people with a degree. Unfortunately not everyone has the means or the chance to higher their education. These are more likely the people with the “ know how”.
Today's job market is changing everyday. It is become harder and harder to get a well paying job. In a since employers want the greatest bang for there buck. Education is one of the most important thing that companies look for. The national unemployment rate in January 2009 was 7.6 percent. recently, for those with college degrees, unemployment was 3.7 percent — a reduction of nearly 50 percent. http://www.keppiecareers.com/2009/02/09/how-important-is-a-college-degree-for-your-job-prospects/.
In conclusion, I think that it pays to be educated. Your more likely to get a job and keep it if your better educated. When looking at the phrase “ Those who know how work for those who know why”, I think that its best to know how and why, but better to be in charge with the know why.

The smarter we get the dumber we will end up

The smarter we get the dumber we will end up. Technology is advancing everyday. With the use of the internet libraries are becoming more and more useless. To be honest I have not been in ours in close to thirteen years. All you ever wanted to know is at your finger tips. Which brings me to my next point. There are search engines for everything. If you don't know the answer to a question, they will find it. Critical think seems to be going out the window. And when we stop critical think, that is when we stop learning.
I remember when I was in high school, which was not to long ago. They where more focused on teach us how to use a calculator rather than teaching us how to do the math ourselves. Critical thinking is the ability to think clearly and rationally. It includes the ability to engage in reflective and independent thinking. This is why it needs to be taught at a young age and continued to be taught through out schooling. On the website http://philosophy.hku.hk/think/critical/ct.php. It gives a list of why critical thinking is so important and that someone with good critical thinking skills is able to do.
I admit that I don't read nearly as much as I would like to. Between school, work, and the kids, its hard to find time. By reading, your are engaging your brain. Your thinking and using your imagination. Something that us adults tend to lose as we get older. The right side deals more with visual activities and plays a role in putting things together. he left hemisphere tends to be the more analytical part; it analyzes information collected by the right. It takes information from the right hemisphere and applies language to it. http://www.tbiguide.com/howbrainworks.html. If your just sitting watching TV your brain is not functioning as well as it can.
We are becoming more and more reliant on technology. If we continue to do as we always do, I think that we will end up something like in the movie Wallie, where machines do all the work and we lay around getting fat. Doctors are always saying how important it is that we workout and eat health. All that I'm saying is workout your mind. Make it as strong as I can be.
As far as the whole booking burn thing goes, I don't think that its going to go like that. I think that we are simply not going to make books any more. Everything is going to be on computers and TV. The books that we do have are going to be useless.

to spend or not to spend

To spend or not to spend that is the question. I'm not sure whether spend money is patriotic or not but it needs to be done. I think if everyone buckles down with there money, it could force us into another depression. Just think about it. Lets say a big time CEO want to remodel his home. So he call a builder, which in turn he call his trades and money is spread down the line. Because of this simple remodel close to 10-15 people will have a job that week. Now with the money they earned, they shop for food, cloths and other things they want and need. Which puts money back into the economy. Now if the big CEO didn't do this, he would probably be fine, but not all thous who would have benefited from the work. So spending money is good. I think that it benefits our country., but as far as patriotic I'm not sure if I would call it that.
I think that change is a good thing. It is important that we as a society try new things. Media plays a huge part in getting us to try these new things. I would like to see a change to better families. Do to all of these technological advances families are doing less and less together. Watching TV together does not count. How about going to the park, camping, or just throwing the good old football around. We are working more and more and spending less and less time with the family. I'm guilty of this too. The problem is cost. People now a days have to work two jobs just to make the ends meet.
I would have to say the greatest advance would have to be in medical. To be honest I don't care prescription. I think our body has the ability to heal a lot more than we give it credit for, but there is a time and place for it. About two years ago I cut my thigh with a saw and was flown to Phoenix, where they fixed my leg. Other than an unsightly scar my leg is fine and causes me no trouble. Now if this were to have happened 10 to 15 years ago, I would have not been as lucky as I was. That is why I think the changes in medicine have been for the positive.

Its all about the know how!

The next question was a lot harder for me to answer because I don't watch TV or read the news paper. There is nothing good on either one. The story that I found was of President Obama who spoke about the proposal to build a mosque two blocks from the site of the September 11 terror attacks.
"Muslims have the right to practice their religion as everyone else in this country," President Obama said. "And that includes the right to build a place of worship and a community center on private property in lower Manhattan."http://www.voanews.com/english/news/Obamas-Mosque-Comments-Fuel-Controversy---100969249.html
This topic is fueled by so many things. The September 11 attack as let this country sore to anyone that practices Islam or has anything to do with it. Are people mad because the president is trying to be fair to the Muslims or are they mad because the building site is so close to where the twin towers use to stand. Because of our past history with the Muslims I don't think that there is ever going to be a right answer.
Yes children need to be taught reasoning even at the primary level. By teaching they reasoning your teaching them right from wrong. Your teaching them how to look at a situation and figure out what is the right thing to do. I have two children one is 11 and the other is 3. I taught reasoning to the 11 year old as well as what I'm teaching the 3 year old. They say a child's manors are set by the age of 7 so it is important to build a strong foundation early on.

Assumption

I think it is easier because we have been expecting it. When we do this our brain runs through the possibilities of out comes and prepares us for a suitable outcome. It is when something that is not considered by our brain that causes an uneasy feeling. We block things out because our mind is just not able to handle it. There has be case studies of children blocking out childhood memories of abuse or rape victims not being able to recall what had happened. I think our mind knows what is going to push us over that ledge. We as humans get so caught up in whats in front of us that it is hard to see past it. In a senses its “tunnel vision”. I saw the gorilla I was set on seeing him I lost count and had to watch it again. I counted 15 passes

week 1

What were your dominant styles of learning, according to the Edutopia quiz?  Do you agree with the results?  Why or why not?  Give at least one example of how you learn to illustrate your answer.  How will taking an online class be different than attending a class in a classroom, for your particular style of learning?

I mostly learn from a logical and mathematical stand point, At least that is what the quiz said. Musical was my weakest. I agree with the test. I like things direct and to the point. I like to trouble shoot problem. I build and install cabinets for a living. sometime things just don't go together right. it is my job to figure out the best way to solve the problem, quickly and inexpensively. which is not always an easy task. I think taking an online class is much harder then doing class room work. It seems that you never set aside the time you need for the online class but you always make it to class. sometime the assignment are not as clear as you would get in class. Per my learning style i find them much harder. I like to engage in conversation with me instructor and peers when i do not understand something. ask question and trouble shoot. it is much harder to do so via email.
